We were blessed with the awesome PA who believes in common sense and minimal workup fuckery, so she got a UA and some Tylenol.
Lo and behold, she has a UTI, so I go in to give her an antibiotic shot. I tell dad it might be a good time to step out, as I'm about to expose most of his daughter's butt. Annnd he just shrugs and stands there. So, after her shot time, my friend goes into discharge her and dad gets upset because she didn't get a pelvic and he thinks "she might be back with that Chlamydia again". Wow.
I've gotten in report about patients who's dad was all up in her stuff watching her give birth. She was also the same one who's baby daddy had been in L&D the same week with another baby mommy. Sometimes it's just icky.
ReplyDeleteSTD work up = not in the ER. Make an office/clinic appointment. Same goes for any vaginal discharge complaints. Or pregnancy testing. If you already know you're pregnant, please don't come to L&D for an STD check or funky discharge check. Seriously. Make an office/clinic appointment!
ReplyDeleteSeriously make a clinic appt? The ER is the only place in town that will take you after you spent the day shopping and then decided that funk you got is gonna ruin your plans for the night.
ReplyDeletehad one last night come to the ER at 3am to see if she was pregnant WTH. Btw check out my latest blog post about TMI and I will scare you with the family that knows to much. ewww i would never bring my dad to the ER with me
ReplyDeleteI'm more disturbed that you're giving IMs for UTIs. Waste 'o time! Or are we treating the drippies and the UTI with the same 'ol rocephin?
ReplyDeleteWe generally don't, so yeah, that's probably a little two for one action on the part of our sassy low drama PA. Either that or accepting the reality that half of the patients don't fill their prescriptions.
ReplyDeleteA little Rocephin IM never hurt for that UTI who is probably loaded with GC/CT as well.
ReplyDeleteHad a daughter of a patient who opted to stay in the room for her mother's rectal by GI and subsequent flexi-seal insertion. I'm so disturbed by that shit. Like, even if you don't personally give a shit (har, no pun, but I like it), at least let people keep what's left of their dignity. Which in the case of your special and unique snowflake, her dignity may have been lost long before she got to you, but just sayin'
