I dreaded it, considered just throwing away perfectly good tupperware, but was ultimately able to psych myself up enough to open it up and wash it. How? I was all, "What's the grossest thing I've seen at work? Maybe oozy stasis ulcers with maggots crawling in and out? Well, this isn't maggot infested stasis ulcers gross, so it'll be okay." And thus, the tupperware was recovered. Thanks, nursing.
That works. Me, I quit buying the good storage stuff and just go for the cheapy things that I don't mind throwing away.
ReplyDeleteSee now, the benefit to buying deli meat in the nice little containers is that when you inevitably have to throw away old stanky leftovers, you don't feel as guilty about throwing away a perfectly good tupperware too. You just buy more deli meat. More sandwiches = more storage for things not made of sandwich.
ReplyDeleteDitto shrtstormtrooper, except in my house it's margarine and cool whip containers.
ReplyDeleteYou're killing me. What was in the container? Did you use your nursing experience just to psych yourself into opening it or did you really need it once you got in there?
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure it was black mold or something equally deadly. I totally needed my nursing experience.
ReplyDeleteAnd I've been such a fool throwing away my husband's turkey containers! I am totally saving those and my hummus containers from now on!
And you just gave me the inspiration I needed to clean out the fridge today. I HAVE seen some nasty stuff with patients (socks where the skin had grown over that I got the pleasure of removing) so I can handle whatever my tupperware has to show. It can't be worse than the call to the desk "I have something to show my nurse!"
ReplyDeleteSocks where the skin had grown over!! How does that happen?!
ReplyDeleteUm, when someone never changes their socks. And never bathes.
DeleteI am totally guilty of this! Those tupperware containers at the back of the fridge for months with creepy unknown contents. I inevitably throw them away and then have terrible guilt over my cardon footprint. But I'm the first one in line to see a giant boil lanced at work. Go figure.
