I Guess We're Grading on a Curve Now

Actual fire medic report I got last night:
"Well when we got there she was having a lot of trouble breathing and so we put her on our CPAP and her O2 sat went from 60 to 75%, so we thought that was pretty good."

You did? Great. I guess that is passing.

  2. Oh, please, please tell me they did additional interventions or the pt. continued improving after the CPAP was applied.

Is it just me, or are EMT's on blogs dumber than in real life? I've been a volunteer EMT for 11 years now and I can't BEGIN to imagine saying or doing some of the stuff reported on nursing blogs.

  3. Well at least they did that (eye roll) Did you give them a pat on the back and a cookie? (sarcasm)

  4. @ Sara. Nope, they sure didn't. The patient was promptly intubated after WE started an IV. The other EMTs in the area aren't that dumb. It's just the ones in this particular city. They're overworked with the amount of calls I'm sure, but they are just so unapologetically lazy that it's amazing. I actually had a crew from this same city bring a lady in for chest pain, but they kept referring to it as angina. So I finished the rest of the report and was like- well, it doesn't say anywhere there was a history of angina. How do you know that's what it is? Did you do an EKG? Nope. Didn't even put her on a monitor. So, just call it chest pain, and say you didn't do anything. Lazy fucking ass hats.
